I love simple recipes that save a lot of money and can also be made again and again. We are super into dental hygiene around here. Finding recipes and items that are zero waste can be a challenge but I’ve found a few products and recipes that work well for us.
Making your own mouthwash is super easy! All you have to do is find a container that seals well–I use a flip top bottle, water, 2 Tbsp. baking soda, and 25 drops of essential oil. We use peppermint, but I have used cinnamon before and you can also combine a couple (like spearmint and wintergreen)!
I suggest filling the bottle with baking soda first. This helps lessen the mess since there is no water for it to stick to. I simply use a spoon and my fingers as a funnel. Add water and the essential oils and you’re done! The baking soda will settle so simply shake it before you use it.
A bottle of mouthwash can run you anywhere between $4-$10. I always opted for a chemical free mouthwash so sometimes I would purchase a bottle for $12! I can’t calculate how cheap this bottle of mouthwash is. It is definitely less than $0.50 to make each bottle. So I’d rather take the time to make my own.
